STROKEES STRIDE OUT

a) A WALK IN THE PARK

On 20 May 2010, NASAM Kuantan strokees enjoyed an outing to Taman Gelora with their carers and the college students.  Rehab Therapist-in-charge, Udaya, conducted some exercises at the park.

The outing ended with a surprise visit by NASAM Kuantan's Chairman, Dato' Ng Koong Sinn. There were some light refreshments sponsored by Mdm Ruby.

Though it was a warm and humid day, everyone had a smile of their faces at the end of the day!!

b) AN AROMATIC OUTING

A total of twenty persons including twelve strokees and carers together with Rehab Therapists Sivarajan and Yahshita as well as Admin Assistant Jeffery Lee from NASAM Malacca visited the Chua Hup Huat coffee factory on 22 May 2010.  The strokees were treated to cakes and coffee (Apollo brand) upon arrival at the factory. They were then taken on a guided tour of the facility. At the end of the tour, the strokees bought lots of coffee and belachan as well. They then went for lunch and arrived back at the centre at 2.30pm.

c) A TRIP TO THE NATIONAL ZOO

On 20 May 2010, thirty-nine strokees, carers, students and staff of NASAM Ampang went to Zoo Negara. Upon arrival, they were assisted by Cik Haziah (ticketing staff) in the purchase of tickets.

In the zoo, the strokees enjoyed unlimited discounted rides on the tram, courtesy of Mr Moses Hon (Operations Manager of the tram service). The strokees also watched the animal show before leaving at 12 noon.

d) VISIT TO THE CAVES

On 25 May 2010, NASAM Ipoh strokees and Rehab Therapists Nicky and Lalitha together with interim sub-committee Chairman, Timothy Chee, volunteers Thomas and Helen and the students from AIMST University visited the Kek Look Tong limestone caves near Gunung Rapat in Ipoh to enjoy the scenery and take in the fresh air.  Bus transport was provided by Mr Chan Kam. The students conducted games for the strokees.

FARE THEE WELL, TRACY

Founder Chairman Janet Yeo hosted a farewell dinner at her home on 3 June 2010 for Rehab Coordinator Tracy Chan who will be heading Down Under to further her career. The dinner was attended by NASAM staff as well as Tracy's parents.

On 4 June 2010, more than 100 strokees, carers, volunteers and staff of NASAM HQ & Petaling Jaya threw a farewell party for Tracy. Tracy showed some slides on Broken Hill, the town where she will be heading to.

Janet and Board members Datin Sharifah and Katherine Lam took to the mike to speak of Tracy's contributions to NASAM while Lesley Hoh introduced Annie Ng as the Rehab Therapist-in-charge of NASAM PJ. Janet took the opportunity to remind the strokees to work hard at their therapy to recover from the effects of stroke. She also encouraged closer fellowship among the strokees and carers in NASAM PJ.

Strokee Michael Tan who took time off from work to attend the party expressed his gratitude to Tracy who had encouraged him and motivated him so he could walk again and return to work. Songs like Auld Lang Syne was sung and the party ended with cutting of a cake and dancing by the strokees.

All of us at NASAM wish Tracy the very best in Australia and thank her for her contributions to NASAM. Her cheerfulness will be missed!

Selamat tinggal , Tracy.
