DONATION FROM THE ROTARY CLUB OF AMPANG

On 13 July 2008, Chitra Dass of NASAM Ampang attended a charity concert performance by the Hale St Mary’s Chamber Orchestra Perth (75 members) together with the music department of the Sri Cempaka school, Cheras. A total of RM20,000 was pledged, comprising RM10,000 from the Rotary Club of Ampang & another RM10,000 by Dato’ Hamzah, spouse of Datin Freida Mohd Pilus, founder of the school.

FOOD & FUN FAIRS 2008

NASAM Ipoh will be holding their 2008 Food & Fun Fair on 12 October 2008 at their club premises. Expect lots of Ipoh’s famous delicacies such as salted chicken, pomeloes, fresh vegetables, etc.

Meantime, it’s only 4 weeks more to the Food & Fun Fair in Petaling Jaya on 24 August 2008. Confirmed stalls include chicken rice (a sell-out last year), beautiful orchid plants, ice kacang, delectable mooncakes, yummy char koay teow (courtesy of Heah Hock Heng, a friend of NASAM), fragrant nasi lemak, a Thai food stall and many more. So get your Fair coupons today from Alice (PJ) or Chitra (Ampang) and pass the word to friends, family, neighbours.

REHAB COORDINATOR AWAY

Tracy Chan, Rehab Coordinator, will be out of the country from 18 July 2008 to 16 August 2008 to pursue her postgraduate studies. Sujan will be in attendance during her absence.

We wish Tracy well in her studies.

SIN CHEW VISITS NASAM JB

Representatives from Sin Chew Jit Poh visited NASAM JB on 22 July 2008 and came out impressed by the strokees who informed them that they first came to NASAM in wheelchairs and can now walk without any aid while one strokee even returned to driving on his own.
 
Attending to the reporters were members of NASAM JB Committee led by Mr Phoon Chee Yap, the Chairman. The reporters witnessed strokees doing hand therapy and group exercise. They also interviewed strokee Ang Meng Seng and photographed strokee Victor Tan driving his car. Among others, Mr Phoon high- lighted NASAM’s role in helping strokees recover and return to society, our fundraising efforts, the types of therapy we provide, our outreach programme, motivation/counselling for carers, outings for strokees. He also urged volunteers to offer their services at NASAM JB.  

VISIT TO KUKUP

Physio Qamer & Rehab Assistant Nalini led 15 strokees and carers to Kukup, a well-known fishing village about 80 km from JB, on the morning of 23 July 2008. The strokees headed to the temple to pray before walking to the nearby market. This was followed by lunch, after which everyone did some shopping for dried and fresh seafood.
The outing ended at about 4pm Everyone enjoyed the outing so much that they have already started planning next month’s trip.
